The Canadian PR process — step by step
A realistic Express Entry timeline based on real cases handled in 2024–2026. Your actual dates will vary depending on your profile, chosen pathway, and current IRCC backlogs.
Canada Express Entry — typical journey
Take IELTS / CELPIP (English) or TEF (French). Get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign degrees from WES, ICAS, or IQAS.
Submit profile online — receive a CRS score and enter the candidate pool.
IRCC holds biweekly draws. Once your CRS meets the cutoff (or you receive a PNP nomination), you get an ITA.
Upload all supporting documents: police clearances, medical exam, proof of funds, work reference letters, etc. Pay CAD $1,365 fee.
Service standard is 6 months for 80% of files. Possible interview, background checks, biometrics. Final decision issued.
Receive Confirmation of Permanent Residence. Travel to Canada, complete landing at the airport, get your PR card mailed.
Apply once you have 1,095 days of physical presence in Canada within a 5-year window. Pass citizenship test (English/French) for ages 18–54.
